Gut health and ageing Pankaj, a study of 9000 individuals in 2021 found that people in good health have a more diverse microbiome or gut bacteria.  Exceptionally long-lived centenarians show a decrease in common components of the gut bacteria, and an increase in rarer bacteria. This hints that our microbiomes become increasingly unique as we age. This drift towards uniqueness begins around the age of 40. So how can you optimise your gut bacteria and live to a ripe old age?
