Webinar: 3D Thursdays for Rural Educators – What’s New With NASA eClips

Audience:

U.S. rural educators of grades 3-12

Event Date:

Thursday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m. EST

Contact: Rachael.Arens@ops.org

Join NASA’s Science Mission Directorate for a monthly series that connects rural educators to resources, networking, and professional development opportunities.

This month’s webinar will spotlight what’s new in the NASA eClips library. Several new videos and a Primary Engineering Design Packet geared for grades pre-k through 2 will be introduced.

Webinar attendees will also be able to share insights and ideas about the unique needs of rural educators and learners. This input will help shape future NASA eClips resources to better support diverse learning environments.

Bring Space Exploration to Your Classroom With NASA’s Artifact Module

Audience: Schools, universities, museums, and eligible nonprofit organizations

Request Deadline: Friday, Jan. 31

Contact: hq-nasa-awg@mail.nasa.gov

NASA’s Artifact Program offers your organization the opportunity to enhance STEM education and spark curiosity in future innovators by bringing authentic space artifacts into your classroom or exhibit. Enrich your curriculum with various historical items from NASA’s collection, from spacecraft models and mission equipment to astronaut gear and engineering instruments.

Visit the Artifact Module website for details on available artifacts, eligibility criteria, and the application process.

New STEM Activity and Instructional Video: Drones to the Rescue

Audience: Educators of grades 6-8

NASA’s Advanced Capabilities for Emergency Response Operations (ACERO) project is working to develop innovative aviation and communication technologies to support a new era of wildland fire management. Using ACERO technologies, uncrewed vehicles, or drones, could be safely integrated into firefighting operations to help suppress wildland fires and add valuable operational support.

In this activity, students create an interactive simulation of a drone navigating within a geofenced area (simulated wildfire) to help crews on the ground fight the fire. The activity includes data files for the students to use in the coding environment of their choice as well as an instructional video to aid educators and students who may be new to coding.
