Elon Musk: Starship could fly again by Christmas

Space fans could be in for a holiday treat.

SpaceX's third Starship vehicle "should be ready to fly in 3 to 4 weeks," company founder and CEO Elon Musk said via X on Nov. 19. That would place technical readiness before Christmas — but there's no guarantee Starship will be cleared for liftoff by then. Here's the latest.

'Devil Comet' approaching Earth, 'horns' and all

Let's face it, 2023 hasn't been the greatest for seeing naked-eye comets. But that might change in the weeks and months ahead. 

A newcomer, comet 12P/Pons-Brooks should soon come within the reach of small telescopes and even binoculars.  And it may even brighten to naked-eye visibility during March. One weird thing? It has "horns," leading stargazers to dub it a cosmic devil.

SpaceX pad survives Starship launch

SpaceX's Starship launch pad appears to have passed its second trial by fire. The pad, at SpaceX's Starbase site in South Texas, took a beating on April 20, during the first-ever test flight of a fully stacked Starship vehicle, requiring extensive repairs and upgrades. But all those changes seem to have worked.

"Just inspected the Starship launch pad and it is in great condition!" Elon Musk says.
