SpaceX Dragon cargo ship returns to Earth with experiments aboard

SpaceX's Dragon CRS-23 capsule, carrying 4,600 lbs. (2,900 kilograms) of experiments and more, will splash down tonight after a month at the International Space Station. The image above is NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough's farewell view before undocking.

The Epsilon rocket lifts off at 8:51 p.m. EDT (0051 GMT on Oct. 1) to carry the Rapid Innovative Payload Demonstration Satellite 2, or RAISE 2 for short, and eight tagalong spacecraft to orbit for the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.

FAA clears Virgin Galactic to start flying again

Virgin Galactic has been cleared for liftoff once more now that the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has wrapped up a six-week inquiry into a July 11 passenger test flight of the VSS Unity suborbital space plane.

North Korea tests new hypersonic weapon: reports

North Korea is apparently getting into the hypersonic arms race. The nuclear-armed nation conducted a test launch Tuesday (Sept. 28) of a new "hypersonic missile" called Hwasong-8, state-run outlet KCNA reported on Wednesday.
