Blue Origin launched an all-female crew into space
(Blue Origin)
Blue Origin just launched pop star Katy Perry and five other women on the first manned rocket launch without a man on board since 1963.

Why it matters:
Blue Origin made history Monday by launching an all-female crew to suborbital space. The crew included pop star Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King, former NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, bioastronautics researcher Amanda Nguyễn, and journalist Lauren Sánchez (who also happens to be the fiancee of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos). The mission marked the first all-female spaceflight since 1963 and the first multiperson female-only spaceflight.

What the women of Blue Origin's all-female flight felt after
(Blue Origin)
"It's oddly quiet when you get up there. It's really quiet and peaceful. And you look down at the planet, you think, 'That's where we came from?' And to me, it's such a reminder about how we need to do better, and be better human beings."

Heads up, aurora chasers! Earth's magnetic field is about to get a one-two punch from the sun - and the result could be an impressive show of northern lights stretching into mid-latitudes.

Amanda Nguyen becomes 1st Vietnamese woman in space
(Blue Origin)
Amanda Nguyễn stepped out of a windowed white capsule in the West Texas desert on Monday (April 14), placed her hands firmly on her chest, then punched them toward the sky, beaming with joy. Having just flown beyond the Kármán line - recognized as the division between Earth and the rest of the universe - she'd just become the first Vietnamese woman to fly to space. She'd also just closed the loop on a dream she paused for 10 years to advocate for civil rights, keeping a promise to her younger self that she would "return to her."

Dark matter rolls through space like cosmic Easter Eggs
(Robert Lea (created with Canva))
For some time, scientists have pondered a peculiar question: Can galaxies exist without an outer halo of dark matter? But new research flips this question around, investigating whether some dark matter haloes could exist without galaxies in their centers - like hollow Easter Eggs roaming the cosmos.

Pulsar Fusion unveils vision for 'Sunbird' nuclear rocket
(Pulsar Fusion)
When it comes to the future of space travel, nothing exceeds like excess. Pulsar Fusion hopes to demonstrate that axiom with its planned Sunbird nuclear fusion rocket, which is designed to travel at speeds of 329,000 mph (500,000 kph). That would make it the fastest self-propelled object ever created by humankind. (NASA's Parker Solar Probe has reached greater velocities during close solar flybys, thanks to the sun's powerful gravitational pull.)
