NASA EXPRESS -- Your STEM Connection for July 14, 2022

This week, NASA and its international partners unveiled the first full-color images from the James Webb Space Telescope.
Make a STEM connection to this historic astronomy event by taking a closer look at one of the objects captured by Webb – the Carina Nebula.

Join NASA's Universe of Learning for an exciting opportunity to use real data and tools to create your own images of the eruptive star system Eta Carinae, and the dusty nebula in which it resides.
Entries are due July 31.
Watch as astronauts Tom Marshburn and Matthias Maurer describe how technology aboard the International Space Station is engineered for its microgravity environment. In this new STEMonstration episode, students are invited to learn about engineers and how they use the engineering design process to create solutions to technical problems, whether here on Earth or orbiting 250 miles above. The Classroom Connection released with this video challenges students to think about the technology in their own space and discover how it has evolved over time through the engineering design process.

STEM Webinars for Educators,
Parents, Caregivers, and Students
Audience: Educators, Parents, and Students in High School and College
Webinar Date: July 19 at 2 p.m. EDT

Join the NASA Ames Office of the Chief Scientist for the next webinar in the 2022 Summer Series.

Advances in airborne and satellite observation techniques have made it easier to monitor and measure ecosystem changes on Earth. Ecologist Dr. Kristin Byrd will share recent studies that have used Earth observations to map changes in wildlife habitats due to drought, modeled species distributions, and projected land cover for conservation applications. A wide range of ecosystems will be represented with an emphasis on wetland, coastal, and aquatic environments.
