NASA EXPRESS -- Your STEM Connection for Nov. 3, 2022

NASA is on track to roll the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft to Launch Pad 39B on Friday, Nov. 4. NASA's uncrewed Artemis I mission will test the systems that will return astronauts to the Moon. Teams are targeting launch for Monday, Nov. 14, with liftoff planned during a 69-minute launch window that opens at 12:07 a.m. EST.

Join the GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) program for a professional development webinar to learn about citizen science in Brazil. Dr. Rusty Low will talk about citizen science and GLOBE Observer efforts in Brazil, with a specific focus on example resources that could be beneficial to students and teachers planning for GLOBE’s 2023 International Virtual Science Symposium.
Audience: Educators of grades 5-12

The 2023 LiftOff Summer Institute is a weeklong training event at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston sponsored by the agency’s Texas Space Grant Consortium. This year’s theme is "Planetary Defenders."

Attendees will explore NASA’s plans for protecting our home planet. Participants will attend presentations by NASA scientists and engineers, tour NASA facilities, and receive hands-on, inquiry-based classroom activities aligned to education standards.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens currently employed as classroom teachers of grades 5-12 with at least one year of teaching experience prior to the event.
Audience: STEM educators

Celebrate the intricate link between trees and climate by taking part in the GLOBE Program’s 2022 Trees Challenge. Between Oct. 11 and Nov. 11, citizen scientists worldwide are invited to submit tree height observations and tree circumference measurements. By completing these activities, you will help researchers estimate the number of trees in your area and make meaningful contributions to climate science research.
Audience: Teams with at least three members from higher education (two- to four-year institutions) or nonprofit institutions

In partnership with the National Science Foundation, NASA’s Science and Space Technology Mission Directorates offer a new pathway to participate in Innovation Corps (I-Corps)™. The NASA I-Corps™ Pilot aims to accelerate the transition of promising ideas from the lab to the marketplace while encouraging collaboration between academia and industry. The NASA I-Corps™ Pilot will support teams with access to training in innovation and entrepreneurship skills through a grant, up to $10K, and the opportunity to apply for additional funding, up to $40K.

Proposals may be submitted at any time through March 29, 2023, but applications will be reviewed in intervals on the following dates: Nov. 17, 2022; and Jan 20, 2023.
