Get Ready to GOES for the School Year With Virtual Visits

Are you interested in enhancing your Earth and space science lessons with STEM experts? Connect your students with the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES-R Series) weather satellite program during a Virtual Visit.

Through the magic of virtual learning, participants can interact with experts from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 30- to 45-minute-long live programs to learn more about the GOES-R Series, the Western Hemisphere’s most sophisticated weather-observing and environmental monitoring system, and its benefits to daily life.

Virtual Visits are open to schools, museums, science centers, and other educational organizations to participate. For more information on Virtual Visits and how to register, please contact Senior Outreach Manager Erin McKinley at erin.e.mckinley@nasa.gov.

Are You Up for a Challenge?

NASA Space Place Art Challenge

Audience: Artists ages 13 and under

Entry Deadline: Saturday, Aug. 31

Contact: NASAKidsArt@jpl.nasa.gov

Later this year, the team behind NASA’s ASTHROS (Astrophysics Stratospheric Telescope for High Spectral Resolution Observations at Submillimeter-wavelengths) mission will travel to Antarctica to launch a telescope attached to a giant balloon.

NASA Space Place wants to see your ideas of what it would be like to travel along as part of the team. Young artists are invited to learn about the mission, then use their imagination to create artwork representing their ideas. Selected artworks will travel to Antarctica for a photo with the mission team.

NASA TechRise Student Challenge

Audience: Educators and students in grades 6-12

Entry Deadline: Nov. 1

Contact: support@futureengineers.org

The NASA TechRise Student Challenge invites student teams to submit science and technology experiment ideas to fly on a high-altitude balloon. Students attending U.S. public, private, or charter schools – including those in U.S. territories – are challenged to team up to design an experiment under the guidance of an educator. A total of 60 winning teams will be selected and awarded $1,500 to build their experiment, receive an assigned spot on a high-altitude balloon flight, and get technical support from Future Engineers advisors.
