NASA EXPRESS -- Your STEM Connection for Aug. 15, 2024

New STEMonstration: Cell Organelles

In the latest STEMonstration episode, NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli shows students around the International Space Station and compares its parts to the major organelles of a cell. Explore the parallels between cellular functions and the functions of the space station. Learn how studying cells in microgravity helps us better understand the human body and solve biomedical problems.

In the corresponding classroom connectionstudents learn about the space station and explore the functions of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell organelles.

What did you do on your vacation? Sanetoki (Sunny) Matsuno joined an international team of students to sail a tall ship across the western Pacific Ocean from Yokohama, Japan, to Palau. While onboard, they used GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) protocols, including GLOBE Observer Clouds, to track atmospheric and water conditions. They shared their experience in this GLOBE story.

Join the GLOBE team for a virtual event featuring a live conversation with educator Christi Buffington, Sunny, and some of the students to learn more about taking GLOBE to sea.
