India is on the moon!
The Indian Space Research Organisation's Chandrayaan-3 moon lander Vikram successfully landed on the moon today, making India the 4th country ever to soft-land on the moon. If that wasn't enough, India is now the 1st country ever to land near the moon's south pole!

Clearspace-1 debris target struck by space junk

The target for a space debris cleanup mission is apparently in pieces.
A leftover rocket adapter, expected to be removed from low Earth orbit in 2026, has new pieces of space debris floating nearby. That's an unexpected event for the European Space Agency's ClearSpace-1 mission, which is a planned test mission to remove that adapter in 2026.

The only Blue Moon of 2023 is one week away

The Blue Moon will rise on the night of Aug. 30. Look to the east just after sunset to find it; it won't be difficult to spot given it will be the brightest and largest moon of the year.
This moon is notable for a few reasons: For one, not only is it a full moon, but it's also a Blue Moon, which means it's the third full moon in a season that has four full moons, according to NASA.

Russian Progress 85 cargo ship launches to ISS

The Progress 85 vehicle lifted off atop a Soyuz rocket from the Russian-run Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan last night at 9:08 p.m. EDT (0108 GMT on Aug. 23).
If all goes according to plan, the freighter will arrive at the orbiting lab on Thursday (Aug. 24) at 11:50 p.m. EDT (0350 GMT on Aug. 25). You can watch the rendezvous and docking here on Space.com when the time comes.

SpaceX Crew-7 astronauts rehearse for Aug. 25 launch

SpaceX and NASA are checking off boxes ahead of the company's next crewed launch to the International Space Station, which is scheduled for Aug. 25.
The four astronauts of that mission, which is called Crew-7, along with their associated SpaceX and NASA teams, have "completed a full rehearsal of launch day activities," SpaceX says.
