NASA EXPRESS -- Your STEM Connection for March 16, 2023

In meteorology, March 1 is considered the first day of the spring season. But the vernal equinox on Monday, March 20 officially marks the start of astronomical spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Make a classroom connection to this special spot in Earth's yearly trip around the Sun with these STEM resources.
Did you celebrate Pi Day by testing your mathematical skills with this year's new illustrated planetary puzzlers from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory? Answer keys have been posted so you can check your work.
Did you know that by joining NASA CONNECTS, you get more than just access to NASA content? You also get connected with agency experts and a community of educators from across the country. Once a member, you can collaborate on NASA STEM resources, join groups with educators interested in similar fields, receive invitations to exclusive events, and much more.

Registration is open for in-person participation in NASA's Earth Day Briefing for Students, a hybrid event being hosted at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. A select number of schools and informal educational groups will be invited to attend. Schools and organizations are responsible for their own travel to Kennedy. The selected groups will have access to special behind-the-scenes tours of Kennedy’s wildlife preserves and participate in a briefing just like professional media outlets.

All schools and organizations are welcome to join virtually as a panel of four NASA experts discuss Earth science and conservation topics and respond to student questions. The event will broadcast live on NASA TV from 1-2 p.m. EDT on Thursday, April 20.
Audience: Accredited U.S. universities
Application Deadline:
Thursday, April 13

NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate is seeking proposals from accredited U.S. universities on behalf of outstanding early career faculty members who are beginning independent research careers. The Early Career Faculty solicitation seeks to accelerate the development of groundbreaking, high-risk/high-payoff space technologies to support future space science and exploration needs.

Grants will be funded up to $200,000 each per year, with a maximum duration of three years.
Audience: Women’s Colleges and Universities (WCUs) listed within the solicitation
Proposal Deadline:
Monday, April 17

NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement’s Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) is seeking proposals from Women’s Colleges and Universities to help engage and retain more women in STEM degrees and careers. This initiative seeks to address the significant gender gap and disparate experiences of women in STEM in the United States, both in higher education and in the workforce. Full proposal and virtual information session details can be found here.
