NASA EXPRESS -- Your STEM Connection for Dec. 1, 2022

Next week, the annual Hour of Code celebration will introduce millions of students to computer science using fun tutorials that show that anybody can learn to code. This spotlight on coding coincides with Computer Science Education Week, Dec. 5-11. Each year, this event seeks to inspire K-12 students to learn computer science, advocate for equity in computer science education and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers, and partners to the field.

December 7 marks the 50th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 17, the final Apollo mission to the Moon. Celebrate this historic accomplishment with a public presentation that provides an overview of the mission, including highlights, video clips, and images.
 
The presentation is meant for use by anyone interested in learning more about Apollo 17 and as a resource for those who may be presenting on the topic. You can download and adapt the slides to your audience and setting.

Calling all artists in grades K-12! NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, invites you to take part in its 2023 Student Art Contest. This year’s theme is “What’s Next?” and encourages you to explore NASA’s recent innovations and use your creative talents to dream up the future of exploration.

Artwork entries may consist of drawings, paintings, mixed media and digital creations. Prizes will be awarded to the top entries in each grade level. Plus, a grand prize winner will be chosen from all entries.
Audience: Undergraduate students currently in their junior year
Application Deadline: Jan. 30, 2023

The NASA Student Airborne Research Program is an eight-week summer internship for rising senior undergraduate students interested in STEM. The program provides hands-on research experience in all aspects of a scientific campaign, including flying onboard a research aircraft and engaging with ground observations and satellite data. Participants will work in one of four interdisciplinary teams to study land, atmospheric, or oceanographic processes. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Participants receive a stipend, and travel/living expenses are covered.
