Europe's new heavy-lift Ariane 6 rocket is set to make its long-delayed debut on Tuesday (July 9). If all goes according to plan, the Ariane 6 will launch from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, on Tuesday during a four-hour window that opens at 2 p.m. EDT (1800 GMT).

International Space Station (ISS) astronaut Matthew Dominick played around with "light painting" -- a long exposure in a dark room that illuminates a subject with a light source -- during Expedition 71's time off to celebrate the Fourth of July.
NASA's Goldstone planetary radar system recently recorded two near-Earth asteroids, 2024 MK and 2011 UL21, flying by our planet. Perhaps a tad alarming, one was only detected 13 days before it safely bypassed Earth, but scientists at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Southern California assure it never posed a threat.
