Satellite operator SES acquiring Intelsat for $3.1 billion
(SpaceX)
SES plans to buy fellow satellite operator Intelsat, in a deal that could help the combined company compete with SpaceX's huge Starlink broadband network. Luxembourg-based SES is acquiring Virginia-based multinational Intelsat for $3.1 billion in a deal that's expected to close next year, the two companies announced April 30.

China video unveils moon base plans - with a space shuttle

The China National Space Administration (CNSA) has released a video of its concept for a lunar base to be developed across the next couple of decades. CNSA unveiled the video on Wednesday (April 24) as part of the country's annual space day celebrations. The project is known as the International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) and was jointly announced in 2021 by China and Russia.

TESS exoplanet hunter may have spotted rogue planet

NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) may have discovered its first free-floating, or "orphaned," planet. That's a planet roaming the cosmos without a star, all alone. The potential discovery demonstrates that TESS can use a phenomenon first suggested by Albert Einstein over 100 years ago to spot these so-called rogue planets.
