On Dec. 6, 1998, the crew of space shuttle mission STS-88 began construction of the International Space Station, attaching the U.S.-built Unity node and the Russian-built Zarya module together in orbit.

NASA’s return of humans to the Moon poses several challenges due to the hazards present in deep space environments. Join us as we delve into these hazards and discuss the various countermeasures developed by NASA to protect astronauts.

Radiation in deep space will be the special focus of this session. Learn more about the risks associated with this hazard and discover ways to present this topic to K-12 students with hands-on/minds-on NASA STEM resources.

NASA’s Artemis program is a series of challenging missions with the goal of building a long-term scientific presence on the Moon. Presented in Spanish, this webinar will prepare teachers to use the excitement of the Artemis missions to engage students with real-world science and engineering concepts in the classroom. Participants will explore spacesuits from different NASA programs to gain a better understanding of survival needs in space.

NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Ohio is hosting a virtual University Day event designed to inspire high school, graduate, and undergraduate students. Attendees will learn how to apply for a NASA internship, take a virtual tour of a NASA Glenn facility, and participate in a Q&A panel with NASA interns and mentors.

NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, invites K-12 students in the U.S. to take part in its 2024 Student Art Contest. This year’s theme, “Connecting the Dots,” encourages students to explore the interwoven relationship between science, technology, and art as we reach to reveal the next frontier. Artwork entries may consist of drawings, paintings, mixed media, and digital creations. Prizes will be awarded to the top entries in each grade level. Plus, a grand prize winner will be chosen from all entries.

NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia invites teams to a weeklong, hands-on workshop to learn how to build a scientific experiment and launch it into space.

During the week, RockOn! Workshop participants will work together in teams of three (two students and one faculty member) to construct and integrate a sounding rocket payload from a kit. On the fifth day of the workshop, the experiments will fly on a sounding rocket expected to reach an altitude of more than 70 miles.

NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate is seeking to expand the agency’s network of proposers and foster effective approaches and methods to successfully engage underrepresented and diverse space technology innovators, researchers, technologists, and entrepreneurs.
 
The Space Tech Catalyst Prize will award $25,000 to individuals and teams engaging underrepresented audiences. Winners will be invited to an in-person event at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and will influence NASA practices for engaging the next generation of STEM students.
